I am an academic editor, energy healer, sailor, meditator, and martial artist, though not necessarily in that order. I have been making my way through life by way of serial obsessions; at any given point one obsession or another takes over my days. So it wasn't enough to do karate -- I had to get a third degree black belt; and it wasn't enough to race sailboats -- I had to become a live-aboard. My current obsession is consciousness. I believe that we are on the tipping point of a revolution in human consciousness, having come to the next stage of our evolution, which will see us using our brains in whole new ways, not to get Ferraris and houses with white picket fences, as The Secret and its ilk would have you believe, but to make our world a better place for all.

I can write with authority on energy healing, having practiced it for 11 years; on karate, with 14 years of training under my 3rd-degree black-belt; on sailing, as I've been a sailor for 19 years and a live-aboard for 10; on academic writing and editing, as I've been an academic editor since 1986. I can muse on happiness, because I've been seeking it for most of my life, and I can write about movies because I have a thorough liberal education and an inquisitive brain. And I have been cooking since I was 7.
